GBS has decades of experience in developing the global bioeconomy, with specific experience in biofuels both domestically and abroad. Through their research and conducting numerous listening sessions with government officials, biofuels developers, and multi-national financial institutions, it has been abundantly clear that there needs to be an increased focus on education and consultation regarding the diverse topics of public perception, biofuels benefits, food vs fuel, regulations, consumer acceptance, infrastructure, and financing to properly grow and expand the global economy for biofuels.

Founder and CEO


Renowned as a champion of new technologies and solutions addressing climate change and social impact, Cynthia Thyfault is the Founder and CEO of Global Biofuture Solutions (GBS). Her 27 years of successful consulting have centered around a passion for supporting clients through the risk management and governance requirements that are crucial in securing financial investments.

With over $3 billion secured globally for clients solving for climate change through biofuels, biochemicals, biopower, and other bioproducts since 1994, Ms. Thyfault’s expertise and deep understanding of international standards and industry best practices consistently result in significant investment impact. Her proprietary knowledge and services have established Ms. Thyfault as a leader in producing comprehensive due diligence Feasibility Studies that integrate the proprietary QuantaVision Risk Management System to mitigate, manage, and measure risk for investors and lenders.

Ms. Thyfault advises organizations, boards, and clients in the areas and standards of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Green Bond Criteria, the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), and the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).

She is a frequent contributor for business and trade publications and a sought-after speaker at industry conferences, including a TEDx Talk in November 2015: “The Power of No” at the Women in Cleantech and Sustainability Conference at Google headquarters in Mountainview, California. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business with an emphasis on international business and marketing from West Texas A&M University. She has also completed business leadership and marketing training through the Darren Hardy Business Master Class, High Performance Forum and the Heroes Journey Leadership Courses. Ms.Thyfault also completed the course from Berkeley Law and Ceres on ESG: The Board’s Role, which is designed to help corporate directors better understand their role with regards to the environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues of the companies they lead.

Ms. Thyfault is also the Founder and Chairman of Tiger Tracks Foundation, which provides support for wildlife conservation efforts for Tigers and other endangered species, youth entrepreneurship training programs, and mental illness initiatives.

Current and Past Board and Committee Service

Ms. Thyfault serves as an appointed member, Chairman Emeritus (and is one of 36 members nationwide) and as the Chairman for the Global Decarbonization Subcommittee for the sixth charter on the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Advisory Committee (“REEEAC”). She has been appointed to serve on the REEAC since 2012 and was re-appointed in 2021 for another 2-year term. REEEAC advises the United States Department of Commerce Secretary on competitiveness issues facing U.S. renewable energy and energy efficiency exports. The committee also provides advice on the development and administration of programs and policies to expand U.S. renewable energy, trade policy negotiations relating to U.S. energy efficiency exports, and the policies of foreign governments impacting the export of U.S. energy services and technologies.

Ms. Thyfault is also Chairman of the Energy Subcommittee of the National Rural Lenders Association (NRLA). NRLA’s mission is to advocate for USDA Guaranteed Lending programs to support rural economic development. Guaranteed lending is an often-overlooked resource for the needed capital for businesses and communities in rural America that often goes unmet.

Ms. Thyfault previously served on Business Development Committee for the Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative (‘CAAFI’). She also served as the Finance Lead for the international outreach mission to the Australian Initiative for Sustainable Aviation Fuels (“AISAF”), and The Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energy in Germany e.V She recently received a CAAFI Special Award in December 2018 honoring her significant contributions to enabling successful financing of alternative jet fuel production facilities.

Ms. Thyfault also serves on the IRIS Working Group for the Global Impact Investment Network (GIIN). In order to adopt metrics for sectors not currently represented in the IRIS catalog, and to refine existing metrics, the Standards Committee convenes working groups to provide expert opinion with respect to specific sectors and/or regions. These working groups include individuals with relevant subject-matter expertise and are responsible for contributing to the advancement and ongoing refinement of specific sections of the IRIS framework. IRIS is an initiative of the Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN), a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the scale and effectiveness of impact investing. Impact investments are investments made into companies, organizations, and funds with the intention to generate social and environmental impact alongside a financial return. The GIIN recognizes impact measurement as a core characteristic of impact investing and offers IRIS as a free public good to support transparency, credibility, and accountability in impact measurement practices across the impact investment industry.

Ms. Thyfault also serves on the Industry Working Group for the Climate Bonds Initiative. Climate Bonds Initiative is an international organization working solely to mobilize the largest capital market of all, the $100 trillion bond market, for climate change solutions. The Climate Bonds Standard and Certification Scheme is a Fair Trade-like labeling scheme for bonds. It is designed as an easy-to-use tool for investors and governments that assists them in prioritizing investments that truly contribute to addressing climate change. The Standard is a public good resource for the market. The Climate Bonds Taxonomy is a guide to climate aligned assets and projects. It is a tool for issuers, investors, governments and municipalities to help them understand what the key investments are that will deliver a low carbon economy. The Taxonomy is grounded in the latest climate science and has been developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder approach, leveraging the work of the Technical and Industry Working Groups. The Taxonomy aims to encourage and be an important resource for common green definitions across global markets, in a way that supports the growth of a cohesive thematic bond market that delivers a low carbon economy.

Ms. Thyfault previously served on Business Development Committee for the Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative (‘CAAFI’). In this position, she advised board members on best practices and strategy regarding aviation fuels technology development, commercialization, and financing. She also served as the Finance Lead for the international outreach mission to the Australian Initiative for Sustainable Aviation Fuels (“AISAF”), and The Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energy in Germany e.V., both are coalitions to highlight the most promising near- and medium-term opportunities for the production of sustainable aviation fuels. She recently received a CAAFI Special Award in December 2018 honoring her significant contributions to enabling successful financing of alternative jet fuel projection facilities.
